Letters from the Young #3

"I am getting a couple of people to write letters to their older selves. I recently read Gabrielle Union's letter to her younger self in Essence and thought that there might be value in writing something to our older selves. While we learn a lot with age, some things get lost as well - ie. spontaneity, love, empathy, persistence, etc (from what I've seen... :)). So perhaps you can add your writing to this - something you cherish now that you don't want to lose sight of as you get older or something you had/knew when you were younger and want to incorporate back into your life."

Dear Lorencio,

I presume that’s what we prefer to go by now. I mean, Life being everything I envisioned at this point and everything. I want to start this Letter by saying THANK YOU. Thank You for staying the course and continuing to believe in ALL our Dreams & Aspirations to their Fruition. Thank You for Taking Care of Mom and not only Raising the standard of Living for My Entire Family, but My Homeland and the World. Thank You for Staying Determined, even on the Rough Days. Thank You for Always Finishing what you started. Thank You for Keeping True to Our Ideals and Beliefs. Thank You for being Unapologetically Me. Thank you for Cherishing the People that mean the Most and Make Life Worth Living. Thank You for Striving to Grow and Being the Most Magnificent Version of Myself. Thank You, Thank You, THANK YOU.

Stand Tall your Accomplishments are Many and Significant. You have transformed the Caribbean to the Green Energy Powerhouse of the Western Hemisphere. You are the Most Accomplished Business Mind and Philamprothist Investor of All Time. You have ended Absolute Poverty and Redefined the Word as We know it. You have reformed the Educational System of America to accommodate and Facilitate All. You are a Real Estate Tycoon. You are Well Traveled and Know over 6 Languages. You Are a Master of Several Martial Arts, including Muay Thai & Wing Chun.

Here Are some Things To I want You to Always Remember. Remember to Fight for what you belief in. Remember to Treat Other with Kindness and Respect. Keep a Heart of Gratitude and remember all Those You helped you along the Way. Be Wise. Remember Never Stop expanding your Horizon and opening your mind. Remember EVERYONE has a bit of the puzzle you. You Are an Eternal Learner. Take Nothing for Granted, for you’ve accomplished Nothing Alone. Continue to Find your Joy in the little things that Always Brighten your day; The Smell Sea Breeze, Basking in the Moon Light, Soft Things, Family, Friends and a Hearty Laugh. Stay True to yourself; Always Remember the nappy hair, snotty nosed boy from the Virgin Islands with a question on his Lips, Wonder in his Eyes, and unbiased Love in his Heart. Gender Politics: My take on B*tch & Lupe's B*tch Bad

I am not well versed in gender politics but in my limited understanding of the matter, I would define it as the social relations and discourse on how people of the same and/or opposite gender/genders [gender being the social construct of one's sex] interact with each other and how policy governs these relations. A friend for the end of the world

I wrote a story about a week ago, posted it, then deleted it. I am posting it again with some minor edits, and providing a bit more context. I have come to a few realizations I think are important to share with the story. I was initially excited about the story for many reasons. I had thought about writing short fiction for some time but never got to it and more importantly, didn't know how to tell a "fake story". But on my way home after a pretty difficult night out in the town, I decided to just do it. Underground, I began writing the story in the notepad of my phone on the train ride home. I made it home and in one sitting, put my thoughts together and finished the story. As I have written before, writing to me feels like purging. I literally felt sick until I got it out.
