Rap on the Global Scene

I will probably write a post soon on the genesis of my love, admiration, and respect for hip hop so as to contextualize some of my music posts but until then, these are two tracks from outside the US hip hop scene which I am in love with right now. I am looking to delve into rap outside of the US and I look forward to posting what I come across. I hope you enjoy it!

1. M.anifest is so dope. His music resonates with me because he raps about the Immigrant Chronicles, ie. immigrant experience, especially that of Ghanaians living in America. In this video called Asa (twi for dance), he uses the Akan idiom, translated roughly as bad dancing doesn't kill the land, as a metaphor for the ability of music to transcend the diversity of the lives we all live <3.

2. Soosan Firooz. The back story: Afghanistan's first feamle rapper tells stories that might otherwise be lost. It's a good listen. Autobiographical rap.
